A makeup puff is a tool used for facial makeup, primarily for picking up liquid foundation, cream foundation, or loose powder and applying or pressing it evenly to the face to even out skin tone and create a base makeup effect.
Applying Liquid/Cream Foundation: This is the core use of a makeup puff. Whether used dry or wet, a makeup puff helps to evenly spread the foundation, cover facial imperfections, and achieve a natural, long-lasting base makeup effect. When used wet (after soaking and squeezing out the puff), the puff expands and softens, reducing the absorption of foundation and making the makeup more hydrated and adherent; dry use is more suitable for quick makeup application or spot concealing.
Setting Makeup: A makeup puff can be used to lightly pat loose powder or setting powder to help set makeup, absorb facial oil, reduce makeup fading, and make the makeup last longer. Concealing and Contouring: Besides foundation, powder puffs can also be used to apply and blend concealer to cover dark circles, acne scars, etc.; or to blend blush and contour products for a more natural color transition.
Touch-ups: Due to their small size and portability (especially diamond and triangular shapes), powder puffs are ideal tools for on-the-go touch-ups, quickly addressing oily areas or areas where makeup has faded.
Powder puffs are typically made of sponge (such as polyurethane PU), cotton, or fiber, and are absorbent. Their shape (such as round, diamond, or triangular) also affects their use. For example, round puffs are suitable for applying foundation over large areas, while diamond or triangular puffs are better for handling details such as the sides of the nose and around the eyes.
